About the Authors

Larry and Doneata Vaughn

LARRY VAUGHN

Welcome to my blog! You may ask why I am starting a blog. Well, I have asked myself the same question. My honest reply is because of my daughter, Mentora. This is actually our blog. We will share the writing. We have recently coauthored a book together, Hollywood’s Chosen, which we will be telling you about more in the days ahead.

Yes, when I look back on my life, my three children have been a blessing (and driven me crazy!) in so many ways. I consider this whole blog idea to fall under the latter category. So, any criticism you have, or curses you want to throw my way, please kindly direct them to Mentora. Any positive feedback, I will be happy to hear, as I need all the encouragement I can get in this new adventure.

Please don’t take our blog too seriously. Our intent is to have fun while reminiscing about distant memories and sharing new stories. So come along and join us in this journey.

When I look back on my life, I am amazed at how much I have changed and am continuing to change. For some reason I always pictured myself getting more set in my ways the older I got. However, the opposite has been true for me. The plus side for my wife, Doneata, is there is rarely a dull moment.

I’ve been married to the love of my life for 40 years. Doneata and I have had a rather unusual life. We have lived in the Carolinas, Miami, and today we live in South Bend, Indiana. I spent thirty-two years in the Hollywood entertainment industry.

Like everyone, I have many fond memories and many regrets in my life, but I’m thankful for my faith and my family. Doneata and I are members of a local Evangelical Free Church. We have six of the cutest and sweetest grandchildren you will ever meet. And last, but certainly not least, we have a Yochon dog, Henry, who is my buddy.

MENTORA VAUGHN GRATRIX

My dad was diagnosed with cancer when I was in college. The prognosis was bleak: the doctors gave him just eighteen months to two years to live. I hoped he would live long enough for me to meet the man I was to marry, so my dad could walk me down the aisle. While some girls don’t have the opportunity to have their dad be a part of their wedding day, I couldn’t imagine making that important decision alone, without my dad’s stable hand to guide me. Now here we are, so many years later, writing a book and starting a blog together. To say it has been an easy journey would simply not be true, but I can’t think of anyone I would rather go through this process with than my dad. He is my mentor and my friend, and what makes the process easy is we think alike. We make a great team.

I grew up in Miami, Florida, and later lived in Myrtle Beach and Greenville, South Carolina. My passion for education led me to start my own tutoring business while living in Greenville. Some people question love at first sight, but it actually happened to me. No, I didn’t fall in love right away (actually it took me two years to see the light); but for Jeffrey Gratrix, it was love at first sight. He patiently wooed me until I finally said yes! Our long distance romance consisted of over a thousand e-mails. Thankfully, Jeffrey printed every e-mail and saved them all. In 2002, I married my best friend and the love of my life. We currently live in South Bend, and God has blessed us with two beautiful daughters who offer plenty of inspiration for my love of writing. Our newest family member is a sweet little Yochon puppy, Isabelle.
