(Brigitte, Doneata & Sylvester)
No, I’m not nervous around celebrities. When they get up in the morning, they put their pants on the same way everyone else does—one leg at a time.

When I was growing up, I knew my parents weren’t your typical parents. My dad was a film buyer; and because of his job, my parents spent a lot of time around celebrities. My mom typically didn’t want to discuss their business trips but occasionally she would come home and show me pictures with well-known stars. This picture is one of my favorites for several reasons: it was one of my mom’s favorite trips out to California. She not only met with Sylvester Stallone and his bride-to-be, Brigitte Nielsen, on that trip, but she also met Michael J. Fox (who she told me was “a really nice kid”), Ron Howard, Danny DeVito, and she had a very interesting encounter with Clint Eastwood (which we tell the full story in Hollywood’s Chosen—coming September 5th).
However, my mom was never star-struck. She really enjoyed her time meeting the various stars; but to her, they were just very talented people. Another reason I love this picture is because of how glamorous my mom looks. I remember my mom was scurrying around trying to find something to wear to this big Hollywood event. She found a stylish black pant suit at the mall, but it was lacking Hollywood glitz and glamour. So, she went to the sewing store and bought a string of fake diamonds and sewed them on to her outfit. Then she found her gorgeous earrings at a consignment store. And well, she looked amazing! I mean look at her smile. She is beautiful, and she’s my mama!
So, this is my Mother’s Day tribute to my mom. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! Thanks for being the kind of Mom who is always yourself no matter who you’re with.
This is one of my mom’s favorite movies, The Blind Side. If you haven’t seen it or haven’t seen it for a while, it’s a great pick. Enjoy!
